Skyroller - Letter for Suketu Mehta
Sky Roller is a Hyperbuilding. Also connected in 3D structure, it is a vertical city. Sky Roller is a skyscraper for the Mumbai microclimate. Indians believe in movement, but until now, only in horizontal movement. Sky Roller is the art of rolling vertically.

Dharavi
This thesis deals with implementing the “Sky Roller” on the Dharavi, an overpopulated Mumbai area with extreme density, the so-called hyper-density. Dharavi is a slum, one of Asia’s largest slums. More than 1 million people live in a 2.2 km2 area. It was very important to develop natural ventilation techniques with thermal mass activated overnight to reduce the cost of mechanical cooling.
Sun Irradiation
The solar study was conducted to minimize direct sunlight exposure.
Sun Vectors
Sun is prevented with overhang during the hours from 11:00 to 17:00
Proving the hypothesis with simulation tools
A short script is written and executed. The 3D model is created by scripting in Grasshopper and then a simulation is run to verify the results.
Grasshopper3D
Script for calculating solar vectors and creating overhangs on each floor
Skyroller
Skyroller is a vertical solution to Dharavi’s problems: lack of water, lack of sanitation, and lack of space. But Skyroller is more than an improved architectural quality of life. It brings a different way of life to a divided India. India is diverse: caste systems, religions, languages and ideas.
Through two simple curves, sine and cosine, curves of life, it connects the colors of India. It follows the path of the sun and the direction of the wind. It acts as a water purifier and rainwater catcher.
