Facade Design
The task was to develop a parametric facade using the bavarian flag symbol rhomb and sun vectors.

Sun Irradiation
The solar study was conducted to minimize direct sunlight exposure.

Sun Irradiation Sketch
In Regensburg (Germany), the maximum altitude of the sun on June 21 is 65°, and the minimum altitude is 17° on Dec. 21

Triangles
The facades are subdivided into triangles, and the illustration above demonstrates the main principles of the window’s extrusion to prevent direct sun from getting into the museum.

Triangle F
In some sections of the museum, where no direct exhibition is on display, we can let the sun into the house after 5pm.

Form
The guiding idea for the urban planning concept of the new Museum of Bavarian History was to achieve a sensitive location of the building volumes while taking into account all surrounding building structures, which corresponds to the vision of a future-oriented museum building.

Natural Ventilation
Using prevailing winds and atrium for Nocturnal Ventilative Cooling: cooling the structural mass of the building interior by ventilation during the night and closing the building during the daytime, thus lowering the indoor daytime temperature.

Climate concept summer vs. winter
The figure above shows a concepts combination of natural and mechanical ventilation in combination with radiant floor cooling, for summer and winter months.
Process
We accompanied the architect throughout the design process.
